Another Trip Around the Sun

Angela Manzer | JUN 28, 2026

Today is my birthday.

For many years, birthdays felt like a time to measure.

What have I accomplished?

Am I where I thought I would be?

What should I be doing differently by now?

Without realizing it, I treated each birthday like a progress report.

Another year older.

Another list of things I hadn’t yet figured out.

But somewhere along the way, that began to change.

Now, birthdays feel less like a finish line and more like a quiet invitation to pause.

To look back with gratitude.

To notice what has changed.

To honour what has been difficult.

To celebrate what has quietly grown.

Life rarely unfolds the way we imagine it will.

The path bends.

Plans change.

We lose things we thought we’d keep forever.

We discover parts of ourselves we didn’t know existed.

Looking back, I can see that some of the moments that felt like detours became the very experiences that shaped who I am today.

Not because they were easy.

But because they asked me to grow in ways I never would have chosen.

Nature reminds us of this every year.

The seasons don’t compare themselves to the years before.

A tree doesn’t wonder if it bloomed enough last spring.

The ocean doesn’t measure yesterday’s waves against today’s.

Everything simply continues becoming.

Perhaps we are allowed to do the same.

A birthday doesn’t have to be a checklist.

It doesn’t have to be proof that we’ve accomplished enough.

Maybe it can simply be a moment to acknowledge that we are still here.

Still learning.

Still healing.

Still becoming.

As I begin another trip around the sun, I’m finding myself less interested in chasing certainty and more interested in living with presence.

Less interested in perfection and more interested in connection.

Less interested in becoming someone new and more interested in remembering who I’ve been all along.

If today happens to be an ordinary day for you, I hope you’ll pause anyway.

You don’t have to wait for a birthday to reflect.

You don’t have to wait for January to begin again.

This moment is enough.

Today is enough.

You are enough.

No matter where you are on your journey, life is still unfolding.

And perhaps that is worth celebrating.

With love,

Angela
